| The bustling capital city of Bulgaria. Historical churches and monuments, excellent shopping and nightlife. The main airport of Bulgaria (regular scheduled flights from the UK available, and regular connecting flights to the coastal cities of Varna and Bourgas) is located on the outskirts. Mount Vitosha hovers over the city and offers excellent views of the city and skiing opportunities. The quaint mountain villages have some very nice smaller hotels (all the usual big brands are present in the city) and traditional restaurants with traditional live entertainment in the form of music, dancing and miraculous walking across hot coals! | |||||||||||

| Until recently the 5th largest city in Bulgaria, Rousse lies on the Danube River in North-Central Bulgaria. Rousse has an excellent town centre just minutes walk from the river and a nature park. The town has excellent shopping, restaurants and nightlife and benefits from some of the best prices in Bulgaria (see the currency section). The architecture in the town has been influenced by many cultures and some have called Rousse Bulgaria's Vienna. The surrounding countryside consists of gently rolling hills and dense forests, with hunting opportunities. | |||||||||||

Founded at the foot of the Balkans, this ancient city was once the capital of Bulgaria. The town has a significant political and cultural history and is home to an imposing fortress. The old town clings precariously to the hillside over the river. The newer town features many bars, clubs, restaurants and casinos. The surrounding countryside is green rugged hills climbing into the Balkan range. |

A mix of modern and ancient cultures, Varna is Bulgaria's Black Sea capital. It has a large port that handles millions of tons of cargo. The city is relatively green and is home to a multitude of museums - gold jewels and ancient icons can be seen. The city also houses Bulgaria's Aquarium. The airport is one of the largest in Bulgaria and there are regular interconnecting flights to Sofia - as many as six or seven a day in summer time. It is thought the budget airlines will start serving the airport after Bulgaria joins the EU in 2007, and an 'open airs' agreement is put in place. Coastal resorts such as Golden Sands, Albena and Balchik are a short journey north from Varna, with Obzor, Byala, and Sunny Beach an hours drive or so to the south, closer to Bourgas. |

The city has 2 universities and 4 colleges, and is also an important industrial city. Budget airlines are expected to start serving Bourgas or nearby Varna airports by the end of 2007, or early 2008. |
