The Bulgarian language is a Slavic tongue. Most people would associate Russian as being the closest language - the alphabet is similar. However, Bulgarian is it's own unique language with it's own grammar, which has developed throughout centuries. In coastal & ski resorts and the largest cities, you will find English or German speakers. However, most people within the inland towns and villages will not be able to speak English. It is certainly worth learning some Bulgarian, even if it is only to say 'thank you' or 'hello'. Most Bulgarians act with great warmth if they see you have attempted to learn some of their language. However - Bulgarian is not an easy language to learn! There are one or two words that sound the same as English, but the grammar is rather different. However, there are a few useful words and phrases you can learn: Hello / Good day Dobur den Good evening Dobur vecher Have a nice day Priaten den Have a nice evening Priatna vecher Goodbye Chau (like Italian 'ciao') Thank you Blagodaria or Merci (like French) Please Molya I want... Iskam... Where is... Kade e... What time is it? Kolko e chasut? More Bulgarian coming soon... Other products and services (external links) that you may be interested in:
