Beautiful Bulgaria

Bulgaria has a lot to offer. Ancient & cosmopolitan cities, rural villages in rolling hills or rugged Balkan mountains (over half of Bulgaria is mountains), some of the best skiing in Europe, hot mineral spas, black sea coastal resorts with miles of pure golden sands - it has it all.

Bulgaria is a land of contrast. There are magnificent mountain ranges and smooth rolling hills and dense forests. Temperatures can drop to minus 20 in winter and yet soar to over 40 in summer.

  • The culture - Bulgaria has a rich culture and an extensive and passionate history
  • The food - excellent varied & rich food at fantastic prices
  • The drink - excellent Bulgarian wine, deadly rakia and great beer
  • The people - warm and friendly, beautiful people
  • The towns - amazing architecture, great nightlife, superb shopping - with the low value of the Lev against the pound (see more in the currency section) you can pick up some great bargains.
  • The coast - fantastic stretches of golden sands and a sea that actually gets warmer in summer than the Mediterranean. The Black Sea is not tidal so you don't need to worry about moving position on the glorious beaches. There is over 200 miles of coast line to explore.
  • The countryside - fields of green grass and yellow sunflowers, forests and rivers, and soaring mountains, makes Bulgaria a beautiful place to vist or purchase your dream overseas home. The countryside provides ample opportunity to fish, hunt and participate in other leisure activies - several golf courses have been opened in Bulgaria, with many more planned.

The benefits of buying a property in Bulgaria

Bulgaria is on track to become a member of the EU in 2007. It is already a full member of NATO. Properties in Bulgaria are currently fantastic value for money, although prices are rising at more than 20% per year and may increase further when the Euro is introduced - which means purchasing a property in Bulgaria could be a good investment. The already established tourist industry in Bulgaria is booming, with tourists visiting throughout the year - long winters provide excellent skiing opportunities and even longer, hot summers provide great beach weather.

There are regular direct flights to Bulgaria from the UK (mainly Heathrow and Gatwick, although now Balkan Air flies from Manchester airport too) to the capital, Sofia, and also flights to Varna and Bourgas on the Black Sea, which take about 3 to 4 hours. Low cost airlines are estimated to start providing flights to Bulgaria shortly after Bulgaria completes it's EU membership (i.e. 2007/2008). Package holidays and occasionally flight only deals (i.e. charter flights) fly to the main Bulgarian airports, and there is also a large airport in Plovdiv and others planning to open elsewhere in Bulgaria shortly. There are regular flights from Sofia to Varna and Sofia to Bourgas, with as many as seven flights a day from Sofia to Varna in the summertime.
